Other views from the house

As well as the nice view of the mountains that we get when the sky is clear, there are some other suprising things we see from our place.  Our place looks over the residence of the head of the army and the army vegetable patch. Also we can see the army showers. They have a small shower block with a half wall so we can see them as they shower and dry off afterwards! They are quite far away so it's not too shocking...

Much closer than the naked army chaps is the topless granny next door! The other day she was hanging her sari out on the washing line on the roof and as her roof is very close to our living room window there was not much room left for imagination!

Actually topless grannies seem to be quite common on the outskirts of Kathmandu - just wandering around next to the road.

Public bathing is still common here, the kids get washed in a bowl outside their houses, and right next to the road. But lots of adults go down to the local fountain and wash there. It's a bit strange when you go past and they are lathering up! Most of the people are more modest than the grannies though and wear a cotton wrap to cover themselves while they wash.
