There are two major problems affecting Bangladeshi women. No I'm not talking about education or rights, I mean 'hairfall' and the colour of skin. It's so silly that us white people spend our lives trying to get browner, and Bangladeshi women are trying to get lighter. Every second ad on TV is for a skin cream and most of them are for skin lightening, and the skin creams use bleach! Urgg. Probably no worse than sun beds and fake tan, but it sounds pretty bad. And of course then there is moisturiser to lighten your body so it matches your face. (And it's not just the ladies either, there is lightening cream for men too). What is especially weird is that all the products are made by the same companies as in the UK, which makes me think that there is a group of people sitting around a table thinking up ways for the whole world to feel bad about themselves!
Another problem is 'hairfall'. I didn't know it, but it's not normal to have some hair fall out when you brush it, and it can really ruin your day. But you can still have a great social life and a boyfriend with shampoo that fights hairfall and makes your hair strong so it's ok. (I guess 'hairfall' is a problem because Bangladeshi women have dark hair so it shows up more when it falls out?).
Another funny ad is for 'Mankind Unwanted 72'. This is for emergency contraception. It's funny because most of the women on ads look beautiful with not much make up and nice clothes. The woman on this ad looks like a transvestite with thick makeup and a tight pink outfit. The friend that brings her 'Unwanted 72' is not much better but it's ok, because at the end of the ad the two girls go off with their boyfriends and they have put on pretty dresses and taken off most of their makeup. So they must have learned their lesson. It's also funny because they speak in a mixture of Hindi (most of the TV channels are from India) and English, so you get happy actors sayig chirpy little phrases like 'na abortion'.
