As we are in the monsoon now we are meant to be having 22 hours of electricity a day. This seems to be happening up in the main part of Kathmandu, but I don't know what is happening here. We seem to have the same or even fewer hours than we did in the dry season. This resulted in another disappointing dinner of baked potatoes - they were half cooked in the microwave before we lost power :(
We've also had problems with the inverter, wasn't quite sure what was happening with that but there was no power even when the mains was on. An electrician came today and discovered that the last electrician (the one who tried to fix the power problem by hitting the distribution board...) had put the wrong size plug into the back of the inverter so it was shorting out the power. Hmmm, that's dodgy and makes me nervous!
You can get cheese here but it's usually a bit disappointing. Today we bought 200 grams of Philadelphia cream cheese for the bargain price of 830 rupees...That's about 8 GBP (or NZ$16)! It was like spreading gold on my bread. I'll enjoy it - I don't think it'll be a regular purchase.
