Unfortunately we've been having problems with our mail, so please save up all those exciting presents of chocolate, diamonds and the like until we are somewhere with a more reliable system! We seem to be getting letters ok, but parcels are just too tempting it seems. Two haven't turned up and one from NZ confused us all. When I received it, it had been opened, the Christmas wrapping ripped out and stuffed back in the parcel and then resealed. An extra customs label was attached to it, so while we received the box that was the present, we thought we were missing out on the cosmetics and confectionery listed on the 2nd label. Closer inspection revealed that Expat Wilkinson should have received the goodies. I suspect they were enjoyed by the post office staff.
So thanks for any letters and parcels that you might have sent but we haven't received :(
Also on that note, we are probably moving soon so if we haven't emailed you our new address and you want it, please let us know.
Still, I read recently that Dhaka has the worst quality of life and infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region (but it does beat Nigeria so we are not quite at the bottom of the world!) so we are grateful to receive any mail!
Here is a pavement in Gulshan 2 (the flashest bit of Dhaka where all the embassies are) The street is uncharacteristically empty because it was Eid:
